Exciting news! The Kodigahakanda Community Conservation Sanctuary is on the verge of a transformative journey, and we invite you to be a vital part of it! 🌱🗺️
Background:
The Kodigahakanda Community Conservation Sanctuary, Sri Lanka's sole haven of its kind, is gearing up for a remarkable makeover. The absence of clear boundaries has posed challenges to its preservation efforts. Thanks to the generosity of Mr. Olabodua Jayantha Gangodawila, who is not only a dedicated member but also a compassionate businessman associated with Mihitala Mithuro from its inception, we are obtaining the wooden poles needed for the initial marking. The financial contribution for the demarcation work is provided by the Kodigahakanda Trust led by Mr. Rohan de Soysa.
Survey Work in Progress:
Survey work has commenced to delineate the sanctuary's boundaries, paving the way for enhanced protection. But we're not stopping there! Our vision extends beyond temporary stakes – we are gearing up to install permanent concrete pillars to fortify the sanctuary's borders.
Greening the Sanctuary:
A vital phase involves adorning the entire boundary with a lush hedge. We are planning to plant and nurture bamboo species (with reeds) and other suitable plants along the Thambili stream, contributing to stream conservation. This endeavour is not just about safeguarding nature; it's an opportunity for economic development in the surrounding community.
Community Empowerment:
To achieve this, we need your support! Here's how you can make a difference:
1. Concrete Pillars: Sponsor one or more concrete pillars to mark the boundaries permanently.
2. Plant Adoption: Contribute by providing the required plant species to beautify and fortify the sanctuary.
